I was fortunate to end my year with a very special experience. Myself along with 8 other international travelers were invited to Malam Jabba Ski Resort for a special snow festival event. The ski resort at Malamjabba was once a thriving place for tourism and families to relax and have fun. Sadly the people of Swat valley suffered tremendously after the takeover of terrorists in 2007. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives, their freedom, and many people lived in fear. Since 2009 and the fall of the terrorists, the region has been slowly building itself back up. They have begun to rebuild the resort and the people are regaining their hope for a safe future. It’s been many years now that the country has been deemed safe, but there still remains the hearsay of negativity that it is not. The snow festival was more than just an event with fun activities. It was a chance to humanize the area, meet the locals, hear their stories, connect with them, show them love and most importantly, give them hope. That this is the new future of Swat Valley and Pakistan. That people no longer need to live in fear and the economy will once again be open for international visitors. To be able to experience this amazing country and what it really has to offer. A very big Thank you to Malam Jabba Ski Resort for inviting me to this event and giving me this amazing experience.
